Hey guys I am working on a 1998 F800 A/C system & have a question. I need a reciever / drier for it. It mounts out on the condenser. This truck has Dealer A/C. It has two separate HVAC systems, the heater system is on the front of the firewall & the A/C system is on the rear of the firewall in front of the glove box. It uses two separate blower motors. There is a little plastic brainbox that differentiates between the two blower motors. It also acts as a thermostst. The whole A/C box don't bolt to anything, just kinda "Sits" up in there. Anyway the Comp wasn't any problem to find, it had a Parker expansion valve & it crossed to a Block valve so I just Visually matched one out of a Murray catalog. But the two different Med / Heavy Ford truck dealers I've called want to sell me an Acumulater instead of a Drier. They don't have any listings for Dealer Air or parts for such, the VIN tells them it is a Non AC truck. The drier looks close to one that fits an early 80s Jeep product, like Cherokees. Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks!
Yeah, that's gonna be a tough one. Back in the day one could peruse the paper catalogs and get pretty close, but paper catalogs are gone and what we have now is crap. I used a local mobile A/C supplier in the past for jobs like this (in Portland, Ore.) and tapped their knowledge. I wouldn't know how to advise you these days.
OK as a future reference for anybody else with this problem here's what I did. I bought a Drier for a early 80s Jeep product- all models take the same one- it has ALMOST the same mounting ear welded on it. I shortend it a little, bent it some & drilled a hole to match the condenser mounting bracket & bolted her up! Same 3/8" tube O-Ring fittings. Got a vacuum pulling now. Man if that little brainbox don't work properly aint sure what to do then. There is no low psi protection, only HP. I spose I would have to incorporate a thermo switch into the evaporator with seperate controls for that & blower motor. How do I always get tangled into these Tar Babies? Thanks!
