Coming home in the driving rain, I noticed the pull handle mounted on the passenger A-pillar was crying. Water dripping down the inside of the handle, then off the bottom edge. I removed the handle and trim/weatherstrip and can see drips running down the wiring harness that goes down the pillar. I'm assuming the upper edge of the windshield is leaking. We're about to leave on a camping trip, so I really don't have time to remove the windshield and fix/seal the front edge of the roof properly right now, but I'd like to keep the damage to a minimum until then. What type of waterseal would work good enough to get by? I'm thinking a clear silicone or some type. Since I'm going to tear into it properly soon, appearances aren't really important. Must be a relatively new problem, because there's no rust or rot along the inside of the pillar, and the headliner isn't waterstained or moldy (yet). Having bad flashbacks to an old Monte Carlo T-top that did this, but by the time I noticed the upper door hinge was just hanging on by a thread from rust damage.
Now my Excursion looks like one of those cool rally cars - have a bright white stripe just above the windshield. It's so clean and white I either have to detail the rest of the body or cover it in white duct tape. ...
try butyl rubber. it could be a permanent solution if needed. Use a small plastic "wedge" to get it down in the crevices. Can fairly easily remove later with no damage if needed. But if you do a good job sealing the seam, it's effectively a permanent fix. I used this stuff to fix my rear window/hatch recently.
Fix the leak yet? Does the Excursion have a sunroof? Drains usually go down the pillar and clogged or loose drain tubes can leak down the pillar also. Common problem on many vehicles when the leak starts suddenly unless a bad windshield install or rust is forming

Haven't fixed it yet, and getting urgent. Temporary tape started flapping in the wind, and when i peeled it off took all the paint it could with it. Definitely a rust problem, I've known that. Going to take off the top windshield trim later this summer just to see how bad it really is. Can see rust creeping out from behind.
