Under dash - 2 brackets - Non-Factory?
If so, that was a lot of work just to get a C.B. installed.
Also... will it weaken anything under there if I remove those two very solid looking brackets?

Or is it supposed to be in one of the other two holes that dont have a **** in them?
There is an empty hole right above the trailer brake unit that obviously had something in there at one time,, is this where that **** was originally do you think?

Oh Ok. Compared to yours it looks like someone must have drilled and extra hole, one on each side my trucks steer column.
That bracket that you have a picture of by itself, is that the one that is now in your truck or an extra bracket?

The bracket on the Ranger was the one that was chopped and the bracket in my picture is for that truck. They do turn up on eBay or any truck with the same setup for a used one. Ford never made any to sell separate since they considered the part a non-wear piece. Might be as long as nobody takes a saw to it!

Might check with @benbuilder to see if he has one.
Your TEMP **** looks good. The HEAT **** was almost the same part number. I've found a couple of NOS ones and save any used ones I come across. No reproductions yet that I know of but the regular ***** with Allen set screw are reproduced and work fine.
C1TF-18534-A - **** - HEATER CONTROL (HEAT)
C1TF-18534-B - **** - HEATER CONTROL (TEMP)
The packages were switched in the picture with the opposite *****.

My **** mount is working fine. Mounted Well. *That Temp **** of mine moves something inside the heater, I was guessing at the time I was pulling and pushing on the **** that it was moving a Air Flow Direction Plate.
I have a couple more questions:
I guess I have the Temp **** but not a Heat **** anywhere that you can see?
What would the Heat **** do or control?

You can maybe see the 3 dimples in this picture on the top of that inner fender to the right of the horn relay - which is another place to look for the horn relay besides the core support, by the way. In this picture the truck has the manual valve on top of the intake manifold where the hose attaches to it. So, to turn on or off the heat (flow of water through the heater core) you had to open the hood and open or close that valve by hand. Not so fun when the engine is already hot as you can imagine. Especially compared to doing it while seated in the cab.
