Question Am I having PCM issues?

I think I may be having PCM issues, but I don't know for sure. I have a 2006 F250 CCLB 6.0 with a new engine but it keeps throwing errors. I think I may have issues with my PCM, but don't know for sure. I have replaced the wiring harness with no change, and cleaned all the connections with the same issues. I am having codes for my ICP EGR FICM glow plugs and more but they sometimes change. I can read the codes without issue, but sometimes it gives a code for something, like the FICM, and other times it doesn't show the FICM, but something else instead. Sometimes the vacuum pump runs, other times not, sometimes I get the injectors clicking, sometimes not. Its quite strange and annoying. The ones I cant seem to shake at this point is the ICP and EGR, even though they were fine the other day, and I tested other ICPs with no change. I am hoping someone can help me solve these issues as I am totally lost on this one.

Are you sure ALL your grounds were installed? There are several on the harness that are easy to miss.

Frame included?

^^^^^This

You'll be surprised what happens when you miss a few. I had a customer with a 2005 F250 that the previous shop didn't reconnect the body to engine ground and he had all kinds of electrical issues. Once I went through and cleaned the grounds and reconnected the missing connection, most of the unexplainable codes went away and never came back.

Okay, so the issue is seemingly resolved, but I don't know exactly what it was. I pulled the PCM and bent all the pins to the main harness just a tiny bit, and also reconnected the other 2 connections back to the truck on that same sensor harness, making sure to really get it in there. It was probably a bad connection, even though I tried to take caution on preventing that.

I was able to get the truck moving for the first time since I rebuilt it, but it smokes like crazy so now I am worried. The only codes I have now are the p1000, which is normal, and a cyl 2 contribution. The engine is not running as it should, but I don't know if that's just air in the hpos, an injector issue (warren diesel stock shot size, fresh remans), or what. The smoke is white, but it does not smell like raw/partially burned fuel. I do think it's fuel though as when I give it a bit more it turns grey then some black. I don't want to wash the walls with fuel and screw up all my hard work, so I don't really know what to do at this point. It is probably not a ring issue, or compression issue as I there is zero change in sound or gallop when cranking it over, and there is no blowby at all. I drove it for about 2-3 minutes, taking care not to idle it much, and to give it some load. I don't think I cracked 2k rpm, or if I did, it was not by much. I might run it around the block one more time with FORscan to see what the HPOS is reading, but have yet to determine that. I don't think my SCTX4 gives very good info, except for reading PCM codes. Thanks for the info and replies!

Have you tried an upper fuel bowel bubble test

I have not tried the bubble test for the new engine. I did just take it around the block again for ~10 minutes and use FORscan to log some info. ICP desired and actual are pretty well on point. Turbo sounds good, IPR is nice and low, FICM is 48V range, under load, IPR looks to have maxed out at 46.48% at a 85.49% load, VREF was 5V. I still have a contribution error on CYL2 and the truck is not happy idling at all. It still blows white smoke, and smokes at idle, at least when looking through a light. I am surly running rich. I also seem to be knocking if I get on it a bit harder, so now I am afraid to drive the truck. Maybe I just have a bad injector, or many bad injectors? What should I do at this point? I can do a bubble test tomorrow if needed. I also have 0 blowby, and I mean 0. I did get it up to almost 3k rpm at this point, whatever that may mean. I also seem to have no coolant used, or any oil being burned. I think I am in the clear to add a short video of the truck smoking from a few hours ago (https://imgur.com/a/sKP4e0g), so maybe that helps a bit. IDK what other info should be added. Thanks

The SCT does not give you a complete list of codes. Does not do nearly as well as ForScan.

The full version of ForSCan can shot off injectors, one at a time, which could help. Start with Cylinder 2. The bubble test as mentioned above might also be a help.

Bubble test came back clear, or with no bubbles rather, so I think that can be crossed off. I have no clue how to do that with FORScan, so I'll see if I can figure that out.

Was that the "cranking" bubble test, or the "fill" bubble test, that you did?

I don't know. I got the fuel bowl full and cranked it without the key. I also unplugged injector on cyl2 and it seems to be the trouble maker. IDK why I didn't think of that earlier.

I took a quick drive with and without it plugged in and it smokes a little white without it, and with it, it smokes like hell still. They are also fresh remans. I called WDI and they said it sounds like the washer needs replacing and it isn't torqued high enough. I guess I can pull it and inspect it to see.

This has happened quite a bit with freshly bought WDI injectors.

I pulled the injector and it all looks fine, so I am sending it back for a replacement. I guess I wont have a truck for at least another 3 days.
