Being on a pretty active Ram forum...there's issues, but no more widespread than anywhere else. And I don't think I've seen any issues with lifters being talked about recently.

What year were your last two RAM’s (are these the ones on your profile?) and how reliable were they? My mind is fairly open at this point, so it’s possible I wrote RAM off too soon.

ram cabs dont fill with water. or have death wobble. or collapsing axle. or door panel rattle like 1970 chevy. or misfiring plug wire. or 4x4 system that dont work when you need it

Thing I don’t like about the GM 6.6 gasser is the 3.73 gears, too bad they don’t still offer 4.10’s.

If I needed a diesel, I’d choose a GM over Ford or Ram.

I’ve never liked (LET ME BE CAREFUL HERE SO AS NOT TO RECEIVE ANOTHER WARNING FROM THE MODERATORS) non US assembled/made Dodge, Fiat, Stellantis, Ram or whatever they’re calling themselves now. Oh I forgot that minute they were called Daimler Chrysler.

I had a '17 with the 6.4 and 6speed in a Power Wagon. Soft suspension which lead to lower payload and tow rating, but still did everything I ever asked of it. I did NOT have the lifter issue that was an issue on the 6.4 and I put 110k on it. The only real issue I had with that truck that wasn't solved with an update to the PCM were the parking sensors (salt+water+ice = cracked bad sensor) and the MAP sensor died, but would not throw a code even if it was unplugged - tech and engineers were stumped for a bit. Truck was completely stock. Oil changes every 5k with Mobil 1.

I now have the '22 CTD purchased last June, and I have put 20k miles on it as of last week. I have had precisely zero issues with it to date (knock on wood). I would have preferred a 3500, but I did not have time to wait on the dealer to track one down with the options I wanted, I needed a truck back in my possession and they were still troubleshooting the MAP sensor (they finally did find the issue 3 weeks and two Mopar Engineers later). Truck is still completely stock and is my daily driver. Oil changes every 7500 with Rotella T6.

Wife has the '23 1500 with the eTorque. She does not drive nearly as much as I do, she only has about 11k on her truck after purchasing it last June. Have had no issues with that truck either, other than getting used to how it drives/accelerates compared to her old 2.7 EcoBoost F150 she used to have. Oil changes every 5k with Mobil 1.

I like the truck, but I have been running into problems every few months with it lately. I am starting to lose confidence in the truck and in Ford, and I am considering jumping ship. It appears the 2024 GM trucks are starting to report less issues, while 2023-2024 Ford trucks are starting to report more issues. When I look at the fit and finish of GM trucks they appear superior to Ford. When you get jerked around on a new truck that shouldn’t be having problems, it has a way of creating a strong bias against that manufacturer. Is the grass really greener on the other side, or is my judgment clouded? I am considering both gas and diesel with GM.

fords advantages:
superior diesel motor, gasket upper pan less issues only one of the big three that’s a gasket.
More power
better axle ratios
much better fuel economy
can’t beat the reliability of the 6.7L
looks the best
no truck will touch the f450 with towing/power
even the f250/350 no truck can hang with while towing (diesel that is).

GM advantages:
better fit and finish ( you can feel the quality is much better then 2023+ fords, no squeaky console on side of cup holders). Similar quality to 17-22 trucks.
seat material feels it will hold up longer
overall fit and finish is a win over the ford I believe.
But more prone to emissions issue’s.
Much more reliable fuel system
10spd is much smoother and better designed at shifting, that being said it’s not as heavy duty as the torque shift.
Terrible axle ratio at 3.42
The bed is heavier duty as it’s steel so if you work the bed GM hands down, will hold up better then aluminum, so if you load a lot of pallets, aggregate, etc the bed will last longer.

ifs suspension in the front is just as good as solid axle. More parts to replace when worn out but won’t let you down.

if you do levels and mods, GM will lost more and harder to work with due to ifs suspension.

Really comes down to preference. For every win on the GM I can think of a con for it. You could get a GM that’s a problem.

i would like to test out the new 8.3L duramax, it will be superior over the 6.7L larger displacement.

as far as gas motors GM 6.6L is pretty bulletproof, pretty much a revised 6.0L. They have always made damn good 3/4 and 1 ton truck motors. So I’d say that is superior to the 7.3L. But I can’t personally speak on that.

now if your in the market for a new truck I’d take a GM because my local dealer is selling a 2024 2500hd high country diesel brand new for $74,500. 10k off sticker!

Around the country they have 8-10k off at a lot of dealers.

ford is still 7-10k higher then GM for on the lot trucks. I can’t find a KR or platinum for that. Cheapest KR I’ve seen is 85k currently.

All the issues I have had has been quality control issues. Nothing motor related but the rear main seal. But I can promise if you sell it for oil leaks it will be worse on the 2 other brands as they are all silicone. Oil leaks and diesels go together. Especially heavy use.

10spd banging is due to line pressure.

I agree with the previous comment that you can have problems with any of them. I picked the Super Duty for the last two trucks because of power, the 10spd, the aluminum body, better tow mirrors and visibility, the solid front axle and because I think the Fords look the best. If I was buying a new truck today, it would be another Super Duty as mine have been flawless so far.

The GM is a good truck and though I consider them ugly, looks are subjective. The diesel finally offers performance that is almost on par with Fords' standard output PSD.....the gasser still isn't there and if going gas, I'd go with the 7.3/10/4.30 for sure; just too much of a performance gap for me.

2 cents,
Dave

We'll see but they have a long way to go to come from a distant third place to beat the PSD in towing performance.

I've had Ford diesels since 2008 and last was a2021 F-450. Really liked the Ford but switched to a gm 3500 since Ford couldn't make another 450 in 18 months of waiting. I was hesitant but made the jump.

I now have 8000 miles on the Denali ultimate and made it thru a season of heavy hauling. I'll try to remember everything from likes to dislikes. Coming from a2021 Ford platinum I don't know what has changed to a 2024 so take this with a grain of salt.

Likes:- interior is much nicer
- Seats are firmer- good for short trips but long trips not so much
- massage seats are nicer and more choices
- Def usage about same
- Mpg probably worse but hard to tell
- handles weight about the same. Hauling close to 30000 at times and does fine.
- dash is nice with tons of options on how you want it set up.
- cameras are better but not remarkably so
- gm has sensors on front of truck that my 2021 didn't have. Very nice

Dislikes: -hood is way too high
-Turning radius is much larger
- brakes not as good
- exhaust brake not as good as Ford
. - i do haul a jet ski a little. The 4 pin connector
Is in bed of truck on gm so I had to get an adapter for truck. A little thing but weird
- sunroof. Hate it on any truck. My head hits ceiling so I think it's money wasted. This truck came with it

Everything being said, i still have 2 450 platinum on order. I like the gm but am used to Ford after 15 years of driving them. Gm is a nicer truck but Ford is a heavier truck
. -

even if the cummins is still a bit less torq who really cares. the cabs dont fill with water. 4x4 always works. dw isnt a thing. and if the new trans is even half decent it will be better than fords 10spd clunskster

My youngest boy is a wrench at a fca dealer. He drives a honda.
My youngest sil is a gm engineer. He drives a mazda miata or his ranger.
Know how to say fiat chrysler in Itialian? The chrysler is silent.
Don't remember where I read it, somebody was trying to gather info to determine if cylinder deactivation was related to the mopar lifter failures.

There's no cylinder deactivation on the Cummins. On the Hemi, unlike the GM engines, it's now mostly due to not changing oil. I had dozens of Hemi service trucks many with 200k+ and never replaced any lifters. The once excellent GMs were very troublesome when they went to the DFM system.
