My son just bought a 2005 f150xl 4.2l and the steering wheel is off by about 90 degrees. It drives straight and no pulling. I look underneath and see no obvious issues. They previous owner said they hit a curb. Looks like the shaft goes straight into the rack & pinion, can this be reset or have to replace
If you "center" the front wheels, is there an equal # of turns to lock on either side?
Without knowing anything else, I would think the steering shaft that connects to the top input shaft on the rack & pinion needs to be unbolted & reattached in the "center".
The previous owners may have just "slapped" things back together without checking the center.
Assuming nothing is bent badly, I am thinking you need to set the wheels straight then unbolt the 10mm bolt on the shaft mount.
Then turn the steering wheel straight & bolt the shaft back to the input.
