Question Steering shaft Q.

Is it normal to have some small play at the steering shaft center joint where the rubber bushing is?
If I move it by hand I can see there's a small play, I think that's why I'm feeling the road bumping at the steering wheel, I had replaced the Rack & pinion about two weeks ago, the truck is not pulling or having play at the steering wheel but I can feel every detail of the road if you know what I mean, and sometimes I hear a small knock-knock sound?

PD: "THIS IS NOT" A RANGER STEERING SHAFT, BUT IT IS A FORD AND IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE RANGER, THIS SHAFT OPENS AND CLOSES AT THE RUBBER BUSHING, THAT'S WHERE I NOTICED SOME PLAY

If you have play in the shaft, it shouldn't be transfering as much back from the rack. A steering stabilizer should solve the feedback issue. For the play, yes as long as the bushing looks decent it is normal. Without play every jostle and jolt will be transfered to steering wheel and make for an uncomfortable drive. Hence why rag joints are used instead of mechanical joints.
