400 horse Excursion anyone?
I just got through reading the article about a 400 horse, 12.8 second Excursion W/ a diesel no less.
Don't believe me? Here's the article!

I like it.
1988 F-150, SWB, 5.0 EFI (formerly 4.9 EFI), M5OD 5 speed, 3.08 gears, Summit shorty truck headers, Custom built Flowmaster exhaust system. Force 4 LP6000 lightbar, Federal signal PA-300 100 watt siren, Icom IC-V100 50 watt mobile radio.
=======================================
1965 F-100 (just purchased 1/18/01), SWB, 390, C-6 auto. Dual exhaust, Not much else to do to it.
Can see both below.

400 horse Excursion anyone?
Kyle, don't be liking that excursion too much. That article is either an outright lie or the staff over there ran a 1/8 of a mile drag test and don't know how to measure out 1320 feet. Get a copy of some drag racing programs and you will find that 400-450 hp is not nearly enough to throw something that heavy down the strip that fast. In a 3200 lb mustang, it would be enough power- what does that truck weigh ? What about traction ? I'm sure it is a nice truck and has the torque to pull down a house down, but that article is a bunch of B.S. DF

Those 14 second times in the 2nd and 3rd trucks might be possible with a lot of work, to throw almost 8000 lbs down the dragstrip is not easy. I think I will believe them when I see one of them on the strip, or passing me on a long grade- it hasn't happened yet. I have wonder what kind of 'truck' gets lowered and has several television sets on board, wouldn't it just be easier to buy a motorhome ? Makes me wonder if they are really not interested in real performance and print any times they want and hope you will be so impressed by all fancy bodywork and electronics that you don't notice you have been lied to. haha i love it when people dont believe such things could be true. do i believe?"YOU BET YOU BUNS".i had a 95 Peterbilt bob with a 425hp cat motor and a 18 speed eaton fuller trans 355 rears in it.and well guess what the chevy 1/2 ton 2x4 sb with a v6 got is but smeered by you guessed it.ME.he got me off the line and whne i got to 10 gear his tail was all mine.i thought he slowed down because i went by him so fast that it looked like he hit the brakes.but whne we got back to town all he could say was wow i heard that air dryer kick off and you where gone.i also had a (bitting tounge)a 81 chevy crew cab with a 6.2 diesel in it and had a new fuel injector pump put on it and told the shop to make sure that was turned all the way up.they said ok.I mean to tell you that pickup would blow away almost any truck i came up against.but not the F350 with the 460.but it was close.
heck i pass the new V8's runnin up hills in my Freightliner with a 500hp 10spd 355 rears all the time but thats when im empty not load. hahaha.the diesel engine is a beautiful thing.alot better than any gas motor ever thought of being.but i still love the police intercepter 460 i have in my 78 F250 supercab 4x4.

Let's not forget that HP is not what gets you moving, it's torque and diesels are all about torque. I'd be willing to bet that a 400 horse diesel has got to be putting out 600-700# of torque if not more. With that much power getting it rolling and 400 ponies to keep it going I don't have a problem believing those times.

2 quick comments. 1) 12.8's are in the 110 MPH range, 138 MPH is waaay too much speed for that ET.
It does say 400 HP is doubled from the first 212 HP dyno run. I'm assuming they're talking RWHP. That would probably equate to close to 500 flywheel HP. Still not enough for a 7000# + BRICK to run 138 in the 1/4 IMHO.

Wow, I thought that 12s were a fantasy, now someone thinks his 6 cylinder diesel runs high 10s ! Chris, how about posting us a copy of your timesheets ? What have you done to the rear suspension to be able to utilize all that power and not just boil tires ? I am dying to know. DF
