Seat Belt Mounting Bracket

Based on another thread I bought the seat belt mounting brackets for the 3 point belts from CMW trucks. Although they fit in the fit is pretty bad. the holes and bend angles for mounting with the screws are not even close. No way to mount them without welding.

How many places does it need to be welded into place? There is no way I can get the brackets to the frames to be welded all the way around. Just in a couple of spots.

Alsowhn I put the interior panels in I assume they have to slide behind the flange or at least the rubber gasket does so I have to be sure it is welded with enough room for the at gasket I assume?

I need to have someone who has a mobile welder come in and weld it on. Can I just use the points where the bracket already touches the metal as the welding points? I don't have the tools or equipment to go reshaping the metal. It's really thick.

Thanks for any help. Always appreciated.

You can clearly see the gaps here

Big gap here

No way the holes line up with anything

Same here. Holes are miles from any attachment point

Those are not correct for 1953--56 F-100-- I used them all the time from Mid Fifties and holes always lined up to drill 6 holes---Maybe they are for a F-1---might be bent to sharp ---put them on a hard surface and use a sledge hammer and hit the center a few times to open them up OR PUT HEAT DOWN THE CENTER HIT IT TO OPEN----- NOTHING LIKE HAVING MID FIFTIES AROUND FOR ARE HOBBY--LOST A GREAT VENDOR -- NOBODY OUT THERE COMES CLOSE TO THEM---GOOD LUCK

Aaargh. I double checked that it said 53-56. They absolutely don't fit. The problem is if I flatten them out I don't think I will be able to get them in. I will give it a try. Worst case there is a welding and metal working guy who can make them up with a proper template.

I don't have a proper torch. Only one of those yellow canister torches from the hardware store. No way that will get it hot enough.

bummer I didn't get the right ones. So, warning to everyone to not not to get them. They were very expensive at $150.

Maybe if I can get someone to come over to weld them we can cut them smaller and bend them so they can be welded in.

Thank you for the feedback. Lots of thinking on this one.

Do you have them on the right side, what about flipping them left to right.sides? Are the inserts out to the edge far enough? Just looks like they are in a lot. I got mine from Midfifty but I had to bend them out slightly. A hammer did that. Then slid them in from the top or bottom, don't remember which way.

Thanks, always a good question! Yes, I double checked with the pictures they provide. Also, given the way they are shaped they only go in one way otherwise they don't sit along the bottom rail correctly.

I will get out the BFH and some ear plugs and see what I can do.

Well. I took all the advice and got to it with a small hand sledge and used a big vice I have as an anvil. I was able to get them in but now I am not clear on how the holes are supposed to line up.

To get it to fit I had to flatten back down a bit as you guys said. Then I had to bend the the angled part out so it would sit flush on the window side. To be able to get it in and out I had to do a bunch of trimming to get it to "slide" in and out. When I say slide in and out I mean I needed a rubber mallet to hit it in and then take it back out every time I needed to adjust it. Before bending it there was no way to get it in by sliding it down.

I forgot to take pictures of the modifications I made. I will do that next time I take them out.

Right now I need some perspective. The questions are with the pictures. General question is how did you template it so you could drill holes in the right spot?

Here we go:

I got the plate to sit properly along the door frame and window. However when it sits down against the rail the bottom hole by the window is exposed. So is it supposed to go higher? Next photo shows it higher.

Here it is raised up so all three holes on the bent flange side are behind the window frame. Is that how high the bracket is supposed to sit? Seems like that must be it if that is where the holes are properly situated.

Driver's side bottom hole is exposed when sitting on the support.

Same on the Drivers side. Raised up, holes are behind the frame.

This is the door frame side. Nice and flush. However, when you go to install the interior panels there is the rubber channel that slides over that. It clearly doesn't fit behind there once the bracket is installed.

From: Kemptville, ON,
I would put it up high enough to use the 3 holes. Take a pencil and trace a line where the window or door frame meet the seat belt brace. And mark the top and bottom on the door/window brace where the top and bottom of the seat belt brace start and stop. Remove the brace, measure where the holes are and mark it on the truck frame. You can go slightly (stress slightly ) oversized on the holes you drill. Does that make sense? I know what I want to say, but typing it out is more complex for me.

BRACKET

I ALWAYS PUT MINE OUTSIDE OF THE BOTH SIDE LIPS-- CLAMP IT BOTH SIDES--MARK THE 6 HOLES AND DRILL THE HOLES LITTLE LARGER THEN THE ONES IN THE BRACKET--INSTALL THE BRACKET BEHIND THE LIPS AND INSTALL THE BOLTS--DONE

Thanks all!

Once that bracket is in place how do you mount the rubber gasket for the interior panels to slide into? Loosen the bracket and slide the gasket between the bracket and the steel?

This may be helpful. From the 61+ guys. Going with Julianos seatbelts.
