Recently bought a 1997 F250 460 that was sitting for a few years so don’t know if this is a new issue or not. Transmission pan gasket was replaced along with filter and fluid. For about a week the ABS light came on intermittently and now the transmission will go in and out of limp mode. It appears to go into limp shortly after hitting a bump or RR tracks. When not in limp mode it usually shifts smoothly but other times shifts hard.

Reason: Want to remove because I put in wrong forum
I hope moved this to the correct forum for you. I am sure these folks will square you away with help. I am not sure if I put it in the correct forum, this is a F150 forum and you have a F250, you have a diesel?
Agreed, run a code check with a NGS.
A common problem, especially when hitting bumps is broken wires leading to the OD cancel switch
You can check those shift lever wires visually, after some column disassembly
You could do that while figuring out who can read the trans codes for you
Good luck, have fun
