I have a 1995 f250 7.3. I bought the truck a few months ago and about half way through the drive home the overdrive off light started flashing. When I got into residential streets I noticed hard shifting. After A bit of reading I figured out that its in limp mode and the light is like the check engine light for the transmission. After a few days of city driving the light turns off and it goes out of limp mode and works perfectly. This on and off has happened 3-4 times, almost whenever I make a long drive. I took it to a shop and he was saying that the scanner wasn't making a connection but it looked clean when he dropped the pan, he put in a new solenoid and Im assuming just cleared the problem once he did get a connection (Im sorting it out right now). Any tips of what it could be? Ive read bad fuse. Anything helps.
If the OD light is blinking you do have codes. Not many readers work with the 7.3 so not surprised the ""shop"" you took the truck to could not read anything.
Get FORScan and the reader they recommend. Read all the codes you have, record them, clear all codes, then read them again. Let us know what you find.
If what ever work that was done cleared the issue it was either the correct item fixed or a bad connection. Save yourself time and money in the future and do the troubleshooting yourself, many here can talk you through just about any issue you may come across.
Anything? All I can add is that something is wrong. Without knowing the codes that are (were?) stored in the computer there is no way to know what's wrong.
As mentioned above, get Forscan at www.forscan.org. It will read the codes in your truck.

I’m checking out their website and it’s saying all they have is obdII. I’m not able to contact them either. The guy was someone my grandpa brought his 7.3 to for a service but this ruined his business with us. Any other readers that would work or am I not reading the full thing on their website.

I chased this problem on my 97 for months until I figured it out and I’ve learned that a lot of things can affect the trans on these trucks. Mine ended up being the speed sensor in the rear diff. I even went as far as tearing the rear end apart and replacing the tone ring. A giveaway for this being an issue is if your speedometer needle bounces around even a little bit. If not, it could be the trans overheating, definitely check all fuses in the truck and under the hood, neutral safety switch on the side of the transmission, wiring, it could be a number of things. Without a code it’s hard telling
