I have a 22 xlt with wired CarPlay. Most of the time when I press the button on the wheel to bring up Siri and state to call someone, Siri says "To do this, use your phone, when you're not driving of course" or something similar. Been happening since I got the truck and it's annoying. Anyone experience this and/or resolve it? TIA
That's an odd response, you may have a driving focus set up on your phone but to call someone should be unlocked. I've never run into that on wired or wireless carplay. I've never run into it even when using just regular bluetooth.
Is that button activating Siri or the native Sync system. I've never heard Siri respond like that. Do you have "Hey Siri" set up on your phone? That's the easiest way to make calls and respond to texts - truly hands free, don't even need buttons on the wheel.
I haven't changed any settings in CarPlay. I use the voice activation button on the steering wheel, which is most likely the native sync system, but when I press it, the Siri symbol comes up on the head unit and I tell it to call someone and I get the above response. I usually just press the button, not long press, and Siri will appear. It didn't occur to me to say "Hey Siri", mainly because the only time I use it is when I'm in the rig and have CarPlay up. Might have to just try that and see how it responds.
Just an update: When saying "Hey Siri" I'll still get the notice. Something is amiss and I can't figure it out. I'm going to get a new cable since the one I'm using is in pretty bad shape and see if that helps. It's just a weird problem.

So if you just press the voice button for a moment, it will bring up Sync. If you press and HOLD that button then Siri will come up - but you have to release said button before speaking to her.
You may not have changed any settings in your phone, but it's a 'smart'phone - it pays attention to how you use it, and will occasionally make changes that it thinks are going to make your experience 'better.' So your phone MAY have turned on a 'Driving Focus' or something like that. Regardless, it shouldn't have turned off your ability to make a phonecall. You MIGHT have to play with the settings of CarPlay while connected to the truck, since there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust CarPlay settings when you AREN'T connected to it.
You should be able to turn on 'Hey Siri,' but just remember she will ALWAYS be listening to you at that point. She won't react until you say 'Hey Siri,' but she'll be listening for those words. Some people don't like that.

I'll have to see if there's a difference between a short and long press. Because I normally just tap the voice button, siri comes up on my 8" screen and if I tell her to text, or play a song, she works flawlessly. Telling her to call someone, I'll get the message 90% of the time. Are you saying that when I short press the voice button I should be seeing something else on my screen?
When you short press you are getting the Ford Sync voice assistant. She can play music, directions, and call in your contacts that have been downloaded. Long press is siri which can command your phone to text, play pandora, get direction, and call phone numbers too. TWO different voice assistants.
