I was washing my truck and found a small metal piece beside the drivers side wiper arm. Everything seems fine, but just don't know where it would have come from. I had the wiper lifted up.
That’s the key that caused the recall in the wipers. You can glue it back in or take it in for the recall. Mine hasn’t had the keys in it since the first time I probably washed it.

Ford needs to hire you as their Quality Manager. I bet their current one couldn't spot that in a million years.
I never received a recall for the wipers. Does it need it?
The recall was not caused by the keys falling out, that has been happening for many years. The recall was specific to a batch of wiper arms that had out of spec splines. It only affected a certain year range. The keys fell out of my '19 wiper arms years ago, no issues so far.
You can do what some others have done, use a little adhesive and put them back in. They simply locate the wiper arms in one position. If your truck does fall into the affected build dates there should be an open recall. Affected build dates were Aug 1st 2020- Oct 20th 2021.
Built on or after June 7th 2021(up till Oct '21) they look for a date stamp to determine pass or fail. Built before that date they are supposed to just replace them without inspection.
I had mine fall out and I put in back in the wiper arm with some blue locktite before putting the arm back onto the spline. The arm is kept in place by a spring loaded latch so I don't think the little key matters too much.

Mine was part of the recall, however, they inspected mine and deemed them all good. IIRC, the specific recall I received didn't say anything about inspection, but instead a replacement... either way, mine have had no issues even without them.
Those of use who never encounter snow will probably not have any issues, key, recall, or not. Ice and snow will put a mechanical load on the wiper arm that ordinary rain will not. In the sunny south, most dealers will not have the parts for the recall, anyway.
I've had three oil changes since the recall and the dealer never has the parts. So, it's not on my worry list.
