Hi All,
New to the Ford Forum (hopefully I got this in the correct area), I'm looking for a complete (with shifter - but to be removed for shipping ) mid to late 80s F-Truck operational T170F (TOD) transmission only; would prefer a 4x4 unit without the transfer case but a 2x4 unit will do if there is nothing else. Unfortunately, I live in Aus so would need help in shipping to Ca where I have a forwarding company that I use. Needs to be in good working order due to parts availability over here. Happy to send photos etc to help identify if you are unsure of what you are looking at. Preferred payment would be through PayPal and the closer to Ca the better to reduce freight charges between US States. Please send photos directly to my email or post with your reply to this thread.
Thanks very much for your time
Regards
Mick michael.stumpf@bigpond.com
P.S. Have also posted in another area as thing the build date and model bridges two forum areas
Go to www.car-part.com. Plenty of them on there. I picked a 1986 F150 and you need the Ford manufactured 4 speed OD with 4x4. Most of those yards will ship.
Thanks Dave, Probably sent close to a dozen emails to various vendors that had them listed but not one reply but I will try again. I'd assume a private seller (hopefully) would be more trustworthy in selling a functioning unit and cutting out the middle man might be a better price as well.

Most of those places listed are junkyards. And they will be old time junkyards if they still have a old transmission like that laying around. I would call them, I would not email them. They probably do not mess with emails.
When I needed the front yoke off a 1989 f350, I called a place in New York state, and they had it and shipped it out me after I gave them my credit card info.
Thanks, I'm puting it behind a 47 Buick 320 straight 8 for a 28 Speedster build. Has original 4.9 rear and the O/D would be very handy. What I do want to know is ... is the shifter interchangeable between a 2x4 and a 4x4 trans ... found a 4x4 box without a shifter and a 2x4 shifter without a box :-

Without ever messing with one of those transmissions, I am going to go out on a limb and say yes, the shifters should interchange. Be careful though, they had several versions of the 3 speed with overdrive(or 4 speed overdrive, whatever you want to call it). Make sure both transmissions look the same before you buy.
Is your project a 4x4? The 4x4 transmission cannot be converted to a 2wd unless you take the transmission all apart and have the required output shaft and other pieces for a 2wd transmission version.
Thanks Franklin2, the project is a 28 Buick Speedster with a 47 Buick 320ci straight 8 coupled to a T170F (hopefully) with a torque tube adapter (hence the 4x4 T170) couple to the original rear axle assy. Both transmissions are from Ford F150s, one is an 84 and the other an 85 model. Yes, I have asked for photos but don't believe there was any variation in the F150 between those years. There was the Ford Econovan that had a different OD ratio and some fitted to sedans that had the shifter further back or used linkages but these should be all good. Only getting two because the same parts place has two ( one A grade and one C grade due to high miles) and they weren't offered here in Aus and I'll keep one as a spare.
