Question New Carb and Bed '77 F100 Questions

Hello all,
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I bought my father a 1977 F100 Custom a few years back, and now I'm going to be using it for a while. I know nothing about specs and what works with what but I can fix stuff. I was wondering if anyone out there would know what carb I would need to get if I were to replace the old one. Restoration is not a factor here, I just need something that is going to be good on gas. It's a V6, I think a 300 or something. Also, I would like to put a new bed on it for him, as a token of appreciation. Is this a hard thing to do myself, and can you get new ones somewhere, or do I have to get a used one at the boneyard. I'm in Massachusetts/Rhode Island, so getting older parts is tough here in Yuppie SUV land. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks alot, in advance.

Jon

Welcome to FTE!

First you have to figure out what it is that you have. They did not put a V6 in these trucks. Get yourself a Chiltons or Haynes manual for your truck also. You can buy the OEM manual on CD from the online store here.

Thanks!

It's actually a straight 6. In the 300's.

Do you have a 2-barrel or 4-barrel in your truck right now?

rebuild kit are avaliable at just about all parts stores so maybe you could rebuild the carborator rather then replace it .
If you have to replace it the entire carb is also avaliable at the store try this guy for a "new" bed http://www.mtsalvage.com/
or look for another parts truck .

The stock 300-6 uses a 1 barrel carb available at any parts store.
