We all know that reducing weight is better than adding horsepower, I need some more weight reduction tips for my 86 F150 short wheelbase truck. I would like to get the weight down to 4000 lbs or down as much as possible without expensive fiberglass parts. What have you done to reduce weight????
You should already be at or below 4000 LBS, my 812 F100 FlareSide(has the light swiss cheese frame though) weighed 3450 LBS stock, that was equipped with a 300/SROD 3 speed w/OD. You don't say wich bed you have, but, even for a fleetside, I'd probably say it's under 3800.
To reduce weight is to possibly reduce strength such as fiberglass panels and bumpers (do they even make a light weight bed?) and trucks are intended to be strong for work or off road play and trucks are already too light over the drive wheels in the stock configuration.
You can only go so far in this weight loss respect.
May I ask why you are you so concerned about reducing the weight of your truck?
Do you intend on racing it?
Removed all of the empty beer cans and whiskey bottles out of the bed. Didn`t realize how much weight and wind resistance they had. Dang, I sure miss the sour, rotten smell though. But be careful, your better half may just want to start riding in your truck with you again and that will negate any weight savings and performance gains you have just made. Ha Ha
