i have a 89 f 350 7.3L i have recently bought for hopes of saving my once new 2000 f250 7.3L, from going on over the 200000 mile mark,....ya know shes just now getting broke in. Anyway to my question i have went through the collant system, bought the gear driven starter for more rpms, two new batteries, new glow plugs, glow plug relay switch, air filter, oil and filter, put an electric lift pump on it, well what i am saying is i am on of those guys that would rather just fix the **** before it tears up u know. i do know that i will never get the power from this engine as i do my 2000 but what i am wanting is some power improvments......filters,chips,propane,turbo,..... any and all feed back would be great if u have had good luck or bad let me know....i know i bought a hypertech for my 2000 and it helped it some .....anyways i did some searching for this but didnt find much for this year i am needing 89 so thanks in advance
justin
There is no computer for an 89, so no chips. You can't inject propane without a turbo, so there you are. Turbo is the only thing you can do to make it a new truck. Everything else you'll keep asking yourself, "did it made a difference"? Probably around 3 grand but worth it.
Well, I'd hardly call what he's done there as absolute proof you can do it, but more power to him. I only said what I said after reading it in a brochure for ATS's propane kit.
I looked up the ATS flyer for their LP kit. They're using boost pressure to signal the load on the engine. That triggers the propane, that way you get it when you really need it. I guess the throttle switch works too, just not as accurate.
