I just noticed the emissions light is on in my ‘86 E350. Apparently Ford used an “Emission Maintenance Warning Module” (EMW) as a timer to throw the emissions light every 60,000 miles for a service inspection, and since it just turned over 124k miles I guess it’s due for another 60k emissions systems check up, Lol.
It seems there’s a reset button on the EMW that will turn off the emissions light for another 60k miles, my question for the group is: Whet does the EMW look like and where is it located on an ‘86 E-350. Thanks!
The module location is left of the steering column under the dash. It'll have a white, 1/2" sticker covering a hole on one corner that has probably been punctured before. Stick a slim screwdriver in the hole and press the reset button, holding it in while turning on the key. Done.
Know why it has a emissions light? Because they wanted the EGR valve cleaned. It was such a problem, and still is, for the EGR to get clogged with carbon and cause stalling or other problems. One of the reasons I do not like EGR valves.
