2010 ford explorer trac xld hitch wrong size ! Help
I just bought a 2010 ford explorer trac alt 4 wheel drive and it has a 1 1/4 receiver installed by factory.. I need a 2 inch receiver. I had no idea that this would be such a huge issue! Ford no longer has parts for this vehicle . There are zero after market options available. I have tried everywhere. I know I can get the adapter, but that do not have enough tounge weight for pulling my little scamp trailer.. does anyone have any idea ? Or if a different year model hitch would work.. I can find hitch for a 2005 , but for some reason not the 2010....
Thank you !
Why do you have to have 2 inch receiver? The only way to go to a 2 inch receiver is to use an adapter (which will reduce your capacity, as stated). The 1-1/4 is just the size of the square (male) piece that goes into the part on your vehicle (female). You can get a 1-1/4 hitch with the right size ball for your trailer. Which brings to question the weight of your trailer. I wonder if the adapter lowers your capacity to be too low for your trailer, is your trailer too heavy to safely tow with your Explorer. If you still are not sure, I suggest you take your explorer and trailer specs to a local trailer supply expert to help you out. Etrailer (www.etrailer.com) has a good reputation and my be able to help with your questions, over the phone.

Have you checked Etrailer for a 2" receiver hitch? I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the CURT brand USA made hitches.
