A friend of mine just bought a 89 f 150 extended cab short box 4x4 for $200 it is actually in pretty good shape and i'm kicking myself for not buying it. Anyway it has a 302 and the transfer case will not shift into 4 low no matter what, but it will shift into 4 high and no it is not the auto hubs because he doesn't have any. The 4 hi works fine but no hope to get it in 4 low. I crawled under to see what was wrong thought it might be a linkage problem but the linkage moved fine and wasn't jaming against anything. So I would like to hear what you guys have to say I have never seen this before.
Yes, i meant it's the internal shift forks. First signs of wear is they pop out of 4lo or 4hi then finnaly wear to the point they won't go into gears.
Forgot to add It's rebuild time for that BW case. the usual cause of the wear is they have a internal oil pump if shaves or gunk starts clogging up the screen it causes wear problems.
