1953 F100 speedometer replacement
I ordered a new reproduction on eBay from Midwest Early Ford parts.
I hope I'm clear with my questions.
1. To install the new speedometer I'm thinking the existing back plate (oval with flat top and bottom), 3rd picture has to be remove by taking out the 4 red circled screws.
then the new speedometer and backplate, 4th picture will attach (4 red circled screw holes) to the dash face plate as shown in picture #3.
2. Bright light socket in picture #3 is different from the socket in #5. In both cases does the light just snap into the holes.
3.To install the new speedometer and back plate there are 2 screws to the left and right of the instrument panel in the dash. By removing those 2 screws will the instrument panel be able to be pulled out toward the steering column for easier removal of the old back plate and installing the new speedometer and back plate?
I thought I could just remove the back plate from the new speedometer and use the existing back plate which would make the install of the new speedometer a snap. The old speedometer housing is rectangular to fit in the slot as pictured in #3. The new speedometer housing is round. (Yep, trying to put a round peg into a rectangular hole.
Any help, or advice would be greately appreciated.

Question #2: Yes. As long as the socket fits the hole.
Question #3: This question has me confused. It makes it sound like the cluster is still in the dash. If so: how did you get picture #3?
Are the glass and face removed with the cluster still in the dash?
To answer question #3: There are 4 screws holding the cluster in. Two on each side, and two on the bottom.
When these are removed you can fish the cluster out. It doesn't pull straight out, you have to push it in, turn it, and pull it out at an angle.
The full cluster removed:
You can see it is bigger than the hole in the dash.
ETA: When trying to turn the cluster and pull it out, you will find the circuit breakers hanging on the side. This device and these wires make it more difficult to pull through.
Thanks for your help. I missed seeing the 2 screws at the bottom of the instrument panel.
I may have solved my problem. Found on eBay an NOS speedometer that has the same back plate as is currently in my instrument panel (my picture #3). Looks like all I would have to do is remove the back plate off the one I found on eBay, insert the new speedometer into the back plate in my instrument panel cluster (picture #3), secure it with the 2 screws as before, connect the cable. Done.
Big difference between the back plates on eBay NOS (looks like the one in your last picture from the back and my #3 from the front) and the New Reproduction (#5 in my pictures).
Removing the 2 screws and cable the body and face plate of the speedometer can be removed from the front of the cluster.
