All said and done is it worth it for me to spend the extra cash for a 428 Vs the current 416 build I’m Doing? Lot of great info so far but this is what I’m really interested in knowing.
I built a 416 back in 2001 and it's been a great engine for my highboy. I used a crank and huge rods and intake off of a CJ. At least back then, there were no performance pistons for a 410 and since I wanted forged 10.5:1, I went with custom made Wiseco pistons at $1100 for 8. Performance pistons for a 428 at the time were $399 all day long and easy to find. I had my rotating assembly internally balanced with the dampener and clutch/pressure plate together (no Mallory added).
the stock 410 with 10.5:1 was rated at 444 lb-ft@2800 so your right at your goal without doing much.
that crank in a 427 block would be a 454 and that would be fun to tell people about.

Buddy of mine ran into the same issue around 2004-2005 and had custom made forged 10.5:1 pistons although can't remember if it was weisco or someone else. I don't think he paid $1100 20 yrs ago, but thinking they were $600-700 anyway. Heck maybe weisco just grabbed the prints for your order and sold a set to him!
That engine made good torque even with ported CJ heads....I think it was 400ft-lbs at the rear tires on a mustang chassis dyno through an NP435, NP205, D60, and 33" tires.
it did pretty well in the local truck pull factory stock class.
