Key Fob and Keyless Entry
Also: I am assuming that "keyless entry" simply means I have the fob that when I hit "unlock", it unlocks the doors. I'm not talking about remote start, or any of the aftermarket features that sometimes come with "keyless entry". I just want to be able to use the fob that came with the keys when I bought the truck (used).
I am replacing the actuators in the doors this weekend. Both doors lock and unlock with the key, and pressing the button on the doors "clicks" but the lock doesn't engage or disengage. I've tried the programming routine (on/off eight times, ending on run) and no click, so I've not been able to enter programming mode. I've looked (half-assed) behind the radio and behind the fuse panel and don't see the KEM (a white plastic box with I think two inputs) or GEM (a black plastic bod with I think three inputs). I have not looked behind the kick panel in the passenger footwell, yet. These are all the places I've seen/heard that the unit could be. I'm not sure what I would have - that's one of my questions - and I see a stud coming out of the firewall that has nothing on it.
Any clues here? Any thoughts? I would think I would have a GEM because it controls/touches other things, and I don't seem to be missing any functionality that I can tell, but I can't see the unit as of yet.
