Just picked up a 1965 F250 custom cab and am in the process of the usual maintenance and repairs to take an old but driven farm truck and get it road reliable for cruising around this year.
It came with what looks like 2 piece 17” rear rims, and one hub cap. Up front are newer 16” split rims with two different tire sizes. Looking to go matching on all 4 corners, here’s my questions.
what originally would have been on this truck? 17” seems weird but looks period?
also if anyone would post pictures of their F250 I’d love to see what Oem type look I can achieve or what’s aftermarket that looks at home on these trucks?
I feel like I want a painted or powder coated white or black stock steel with hub caps but I do not have the caps for one. Or enough rims secondly. But I’d like to see what everything else looks like so I can make a choice soon, Tia!
Here's mine. I chose to do away with the split rims. I went with black and plan to find caps and trim rings someday. I found them online, Amazon I think. I can get a closer image and details if you like but they are a little smaller than original.

I quite like that look. Even the tire size looks good. Mine isn’t farm working anymore so a nice little radial would be perfect. Those look good as a non Oem style.
@Grampa69 can you see anything remaining of the hood badge insert on the side there? Not Camper Special by chance, is it? 1964 was first year for them but there are not a lot running around with original inserts still in place. Good looking truck.
In 1966 for F250 series here's the sizes listed in the Salesmans Facts Book.

My 64 is the camper special and from something I saw here somewhere, it is the deluxe. My badge inserts are faded.
His looks to have the same type badges but a 65.

There is so much information in these forums, I love to read and collect anything that might have to do with my 64.
Someone posted this and I found it very helpful. It gives you an idea of what options were there.
I am grateful to everyone here for the information!

it is not a camper special, I have the original step side bed I’m putting back on too so maybe those 17s are original since it’s not a style side. Some
Good info for sure! Thanks.
Looks like you could get 17's on a Styleside, just not with the 7.50" x 17" tires. Probably clearance issues that made it tougher to remove and reinstall the combo. OK with the 7.00" x 17" tires.
Too bad they didn't stamp the date codes on the outside of the wheel where you could see it. That can help ID if the wheels could be original to the truck or if they absolutely couldn't be. You have to remove the tires to see the dates. Tough to say for sure if they are or not but definitely worth keeping any 'innie' type wheel that takes the Type 1 hubcaps like it leaning against the tire. The fronts are 'outie' wheels so likely from a later year truck like 1968 or slightly newer I'd suspect.
'Innie' wheel refers to the hubcaps retaining nubs that point inward toward the lugs while an 'outie' wheel has hubcap nubs that point toward the outer edge of the wheel away from the lugs.
The 17s were widow maker RH-5°s. Can’t keep them in service. The size equal was the 19.5” x 5.25” Budd 71410s. Ideal because they take the OEM hub caps. If you can find a set without taking out a second mortgage. Stu
Very common dilemma. Unless you're a purist with deep pockets, bottom line, most will end up with late mode 16" wheels of an 80's pickup or 90's-2000 ish Econoline van. That being said, original caps will not fit. But, there is as close as you can get option to the stock look. I would do what member AZSAWPION did, Ultimate roadtrip! - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums (ford-trucks.com) Use '75-'78 12" Econoline -F 250-F350 argent painted steel version or stainless version, came both ways, personal preference, I prefer the look of the argent silver cap. IMO, this is as close to stock as possible with modern 16" solid wheels.
