My '58 F-100 has the original rims but no hubcaps or beauty rings. I think I've heard the rims referred to as "smoothie" rims .. they're the kind where the hub cap goes inside instead of outside.
Is that what they're called? I'm trying to see what options I have for hubcaps, but I don't know what to call the rim or what sizes I look for. I'm not looking for stock hubcaps, I want customs.
Any light shed on this situation would be appreciated!
I was looking at the caps and beauty rings for my 51, but I decided on the hot rod style full moon caps. I'm glad I did because I think it looks really good with them. I plan to go with custom wheels eventually, so I was just looking for something temporary. But when I figured the price of having the wheels sandblasted and powdercoated plus price of the caps and rings. The cost was approaching the cost of the custom rims. In picked up the moons off ebay for $45.00. If you would like to see a picture of how they look on the truck e-mail me and I will send you a picture.
There's only one hubcap that was available for the 57-60 years. It was a smooth face with "FORD" embrossed in it in the tall letters like the tailgate. It was painted silver with red or black letters. There wasn't any full covers. Normally I have a set or 2 here, but have sold them all. They pop up on Ebay now and then as used and I believe Mac's has them in repo. They are decent, but need the letters painted. I don't know the thickness of the steel used. He puts them on Ebay once in a while.
The rims if they are infact original ford, will have these hub cap "snubbers" on the inside on the rim facing the hub, other later truck rims have a out side grabber and the hubcap fits over the the dished part of the rim. this is what the rim should look like, you can use early ford and mercury caps with this style rim. -4speed
Hmmm... to be honest with you I don't know the certain years. You'd have to look at the back of the hubcap and see the ridge they ride on. I'll do some ebay picture hunting for you. -4speed
I've an original set of '57-'60 Ford truck hubcaps I'm willing to sell.
Contact me via P.M. if you wish to purchase them.
'61 is I believe when Ford changed the hubcaps from snapping into the rim, to onto the rim.
No, they used the pop in caps( early style ) untill 1966, even though you could get the pop over type starting in 1964. 57-60 were one design, then 61-66 were another.
Interesting, that explains this Odd set of Ford Truck Hubcaps that I've had setting around for years that Father gave to me & that is why I stated "I believe", it's similar to using "If I'm not mistaken", Barry. I couldn't get my hands on my Hubcap book to make sure.
