3G alternator questions

This is for an 85 F150 with a 4.9...
1) What alternator did you use? l mean, what kind (and year) vehicle did you take it out of or order it for? The one l bought won't work with the factory bracket. The witness marks show where one of the alternators bolt bosses hits on the bottom of the bracket preventing it from rotating downward with the mounting bolt installed.

I'll need one that doesn't have that bolt right next to the mounting boss.
2) How did you go about bypassing the ammeter? There's TONS of info on converting it to a voltmeter, but I'm not doing that right now (maybe later when l have the dash apart).
Red/orange wire and yellow/green wire located forward of the firewall... now what do l do with em?

Sorry, to keep my life simple, I went with a 2g with the intergraded power cable rather than the plug one which can/will cause issues. Last Fall I installed a new connector for the voltage meter wires. The ALT works great now.

I guess you know you don't want this connector set up, https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/ECHVRA400

I also only used the same two wires for the voltage connector, keeping it wired like it was, the third wire is not needed.

I assume you have read this, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...-pictures.html

When I went to NAPA, I see they have both 2g ALT, I chose the newer one with the wires coming out of it.

l have the connectors and wire... l ponied-up for the Painless 3G upgrade kit. That was a lot less hassle than driving 45 miles to poke around the nearest junkyard for everything l need.
In fact, l had it pretty much installed. Last thing was to mount the alternator aaaaannnd... DENIED.

I bought an alternator from NAPA and they gave me a 2G, didn't find out til l got it home. I figured that if l had to do some wiring, l might as well go Full Monte and upgrade to the 3G. The 2G got returned.

Are you sure you have the right 3g ALT ? the one in the linked thread for the HowTo shows a different looking back then you show above ??? I guess that's what your asking.

See post 1 from Sept 5 2009

I'm wondering with the new internal wires from the newer 2g's if it's worth the change to the 3g ? As I stated, NAPA still has the old 2g style with a connector. I chose the newer style 2g. My truck does not have a lot of stuff that needs "more power".

I'll also add, just in case, I used male/female blade splices for the three power wires from the ALT, for next time...
