I am usually on the obs 7.3l but have a question on my sons 2019 6.7l. been having bartow ford do oil change at 7000. Today he is doing his oil change at my place and the oil is really black. Is this normal at 7000 mi. ? My 7.3 l would not be even close to that black and it has 350k on it. If not normal what would cause this. ? TIA
2019 6.7 l f250 pulls 5th wheel travel trailer.
This is really black. So you are saying this is normal for this truck, right?
You are seeing the joys of a emissions compliant diesel, EGR loads up the soot in the oil. Totally normal, even my 04.5 CR Cummins with the 3rd injection event would turn the oil black immediately upon first start up. CJ and CK-4 oils are actually designed to hold the sub-micron soot in suspension so it looks a lot worse than it is. My old 2002 would have gas engine looking oil for 4500-5000 miles before it would start to darken.
Yeah this surprised me too the first time I changed my oil in my 22. After filling with oil I checked the level on the dipstick and it was already black.

Yea, I am used to my 7.3l so when I saw that black stuff at 7k I sorta went like what the heck. Thus I came here. Thanks again.
your oil is black on your 7.3 at 7k miles for sure....
not near as black as the 6.7. I have changed my own oil since 95 so pretty sure of the difference in color. Just shocked at how black the 6.7 oil was. No big deal. Thanks.
