How do you catch your oil?

I will be doing my first oil change on my 21 6.7PS. If I read everything correctly it hold 3.5 gallons of oil. I know with my F150's I would just crawl under it without jacking it up and change it.

So for those of you who change your own oil what type container do you place under the truck to catch it all?

Thanks Mike

I've always used a 3-gallon bucket when changing oil in my 6.7L diesel without jacking up the truck. I know, 13 quarts into a 12-quart bucket, but it fits. Oil level does get close to the top of the bucket, so I reinstall the lid before sliding it out from beneath. Take the bucket to recycling and just pour it in. I also punch a hole in the oil filter and let it drain into the bucket before removing it.

I use 2-4 x 4 under the front wheels then put a 5 gallon bucket under the fumoto valve then drain. There is plenty of room both in the bucket and under the truck.

My 2017 F350 will allow a 5 gallon bucket to slide right under drain plug. Clears by a couple inches. Truck is 100% stock; 275-65-20 s

I drive up on some doubled up 2x6(3") and use a 5 gallon bucket. The 2x is not necessary but does level the truck and make for a little more room. My first go at it stayed pretty clean. The one thing I wasn't ready for was as soon as I cracked the drain plug loose oil started to run out. My other vehicles don't do that.
After the first self service oil change I installed a Fumoto valve to make an easy oil change even easier, and cleaner.

I use a masonry pan. Large enough to catch the oil out of the pan and the oil filter at the same time

I use this:
Amazon Amazon

Low profile and 4.5 gallons so you don't need to raise the truck at all. I've had this pan for maybe 20 years. If ever I do wear it out from sliding or whatever, I'll replace it with the same.

Five gallon bucket lined with sized two trash bags.
Drain the filter over night, then complete the job the next morning.

Do you use that for the 6.7l? I have a couple of those that I use for my other vehicles, good containers, but on the 6.7l it's nice to have a wider opening, like a bucket, to catch the initial stream of oil. Also, I find when I use that catch container for anything higher than a car it needs to be propped up on something.

5 gallon bucket, I have a '19 which allegedly sits higher. The bucket slides under the drain plug at stock height, no ramps. I have a large screw on lid for transport afterwards.

I use one of the open-air oil catch pans, 5 gal capacity. Works great, but I just wish the drain plug was vertical instead of horizontal ... I've missed the pan once and it only takes a fraction of a second to make a mess. For the filter, I have tried using the ziplock bag trick. It worked OK, but it was hard to manage the bag and the filter + the slippery oil. I then moved to using a nail punch to pierce the bottom of the filter. That works amazingly well and is my go-to method of draining the filter.

15 quart drain pan + 5 gallon home depot bucket. Attach hose to Fumoto vale let it drain to 15 qt pan. Put 5 gallon bucket under filter, punch hole. Allow everything to drain at the same time. Remove pans and refill, not a single drop on the driveway!

5 gallon bucket with a pour lid. Slide the bucket without the lid under the filter. After it drains replace with new filter. Put the lid on the bucket, pop up the pour spout, put the Fumoto drain tube into it, flip the lever and let it go. Never spills a drop. Slides right under my truck as it sits.

For the oil filter removal use an old gallon milk jug. Leave the handle intact but cut open the front 3/4s. hold it under the filter while you unscrew it, and let the filter drop into the jug. Then slide your drain pan under the filter mount and get the filter in the milk jug out of there.

For the oil drain. I'm sold on Fumoto been using them for a decade+. Stahlbus would be an alternative product that I'd consider. The Stahlbus will drain faster than the Fumoto will. Either gives you an option to attach a hose and drain the oil where you want.
