1979 f150 ranger xlt sb 4x4 cruise control ac truck
Hey yall i have a 79 as the title states and the PO removed the cruise and most of the wiring harness from the engine bay and dash. How much trouble is it to source and redo the cruise control system? And if anyone has access to some 78/79 parts Id greatly appreciate it. The wiring harness seems to be a bit tough to find as they had so many different plug options in different areas. I have the diagrams and don’t see how they relate to a few harnesses like what I’ve heard. Yesterday alone i saw 6 different configurations and majority of the trucks were 78-79 maybe a 77 and 76. Really don’t want to do a aftermarket harness id rather put it back stock.
This is what the harnesss would look like when it exits the firewall notice the rubber style light connectors that only come a few inches back from the grommet instead of the green and gray connectors
These are the rubber plugs for the rear harness connections with a gray plastic connector

My guess is that a Ford E-series Van may share the same Cruise Control pieces.
They are becoming scarce in the recycle yards, but I do see them come thru Pick-n-Pull.
Earlier this year, I came across an early '80's Ford Van with 460 engine with what looked to be a factory Holley 4-bbl carb.
I wish I would have grabbed it, but oh well.
You might go to the Dorman website and enter-in your truck to see if they re-pop any CC components.

i found i think a 74 or 75 that had factory cc but i don’t know what all would be required to make that work with my instrument cluster as im assuming you’d need the harness and everything

Most of the CC parts were quite universal across the model lines up into 80's. You can use parts from LTD's the entire intermediates lines Lincolns. They all work through the turn signal jumper wiring and servo. Cars with CC use a brake light switch that takes less pressure to illuminate the bulbs, trucks used an extra safety switch. Truck will work without safety switch but up to owner. The later CC had resume feature and it can be added to the older trucks back to 78 with the wheel center same shape and a brain box withe resume, Plugs right into same wires. I used an early 80's Crown Victoria brain and an 80's Van steering wheel center in my 78 Bronco worked great. No cruise with manual transmission until 1980. Lot of parts out there to adapt if you can find old style pick and pull. Happy hunting.

I have the DANA one as sold by Sears/Allstate 318.20302 ... I've had it on my '77 since 1986. Recently found another NIB on Ebay .... as a spare if ever needed, but as of yesterday mine still works perfect. As best as I can tell, pretty much same as what was OEM. I did make my own button box.
