I was browsing online and just read about a recall on the cruise control shut off switch potentially causing a fire. I am wondering if my early 1993 f-150 is affected by this and if it is, how can i tell if the recall has been performed or not and what do I do if it hadn't been done.
Yes the 1993 model year F-Series trucks were also affected with the faulty speed control Brake Pressure Switch(BPS). The BPS is located near the front brake line junction fitting on the driver side frame fail. If the recall has been performed you will see a harness with additional fuses installed. You should be able to call a local Ford dealer to have them install the recall. I also believe you can get the harness aftermarket as well for a DIY install. If it were mine...I would also change out the BPS just in case.
If you are cheap like me, 10th Gen F150s and first gen Expeditions also were open to this recall. Tons of them in junkyards so just grab the switch and harness there.
Last I looked, Ford still honors it. Just depends if you want to spend your time farting with them to save $25.
That looks like the newer Brake Pressure Switch. Hard to tell if that is the recall harness or not. The harness may be an aftermarket version without the blue sticker.
Here is a Standard brand harness and BPS on Amazon:
You can call your local dealer service department and give them the vin and they should be able to tell you if the recall is still open on your truck. I had my 95 done in 2018.
Yes, that's the first recall harness
There was a second on my 1994 E150 van
One day I was down there and they came running out with a new harness (with 2 fuses this time) in the harness
They replaced mine for me (again) and let me have the old one for parts
Okay, interesting note then,
I was buddies with the guys down at the dealer (long after I quit) and I told them my recall had been done already
They said there was another 2nd recall and here is the new harness
Interesting note was, apparently, they had put the fuse in the wrong wire circuit on the first harness
So, to be safe, here are two new fuses for you in the new harness
That is my understanding of why the first recall was deemed unsafe and a second one was issued.
Same type thing happened on our 2006 Mustang GT a few years ago. It took a year to get the airbag recall completed due to no parts available. Finally got it it done. 4 month later I got another letter from Ford stating the first recall airbags were defective so I had to take it back for a second version.
