I just got back from the dealership with a 320 dollar bill. My truck is a 2000 4.2L. I brought it in becasue the check engine light came on. Turns out that i had a buildup of carbon in my throttle body and in my injectors, and they had to replace a sensor. Should that be happeing on a truck with only 35000 miles on it. What could have caused it?
No, it should not happen at 35,000 miles unless you are using 89-92 octane fuel. High octane fuel is a no, no unless you have a chip that advances the timing.
I don't suppose the sensor they replaced happened to be the DPFE?
If it was the DPFE, the dealer may have pulled a fast one on you. Ford has extended the DPFE warranty on certain 2000-2001 Ford Vehicles. The program is 02M01 and the coverage is 5 Years/60,000 miles. If your truck is covered, they should not have charged you for the part, diagnostics or labor.
You can ask at http://www.flatratetech.com Post a question about the program along with your VIN. The techs there can run your VIN to see if your truck is covered. If it is, the dealer owes you a refund.
Thanks for the welcome. Im not exactly new to the site. Ive been here for a few months but dont have alot of time check the post but I do when I can. But just because I'm kinda new doesn't mean I'm any less of a enthusiast (ha ha).
AJ is the man when it comes to the 4.2V6! He,along with TallTomG gave me the heads up on the faulty lower intake gaskets last year and I had mine replaced before they went bad.And if it were not for his very informative website,www.leakingfords.com,i'm sure alot of 4.2V6 owners would be without a truck at this time!
Thanx AJ,and keep on posting!
That website (leakingfords) gets tossed around here alot. It's a shame regarding those model years.
The real hero is the guy that developed that website just to help out fellow Ford owners with the same problem, on his own nickle as well. Bravo to that guy, he's been a savior to many disgruntled 97-98 V6 owners.
