what is this round divot for?

I think I have read about this somewhere before, but does anyone know why they would have made this divot space on the bottom of our dashes? I think the under-dash foot well lights utilize the hole, but the design is weird for that. It's almost like they had the big hole there for something option from the past, and decided to repurpose the space or something...

Sorry this diagram does not show a good mounting location. I am not sure what the divot is for.

It is where the under dash lights mount.

Yup, I have those on my bronco. But it looks like an unnecessarily complicated manufacturing process when they could have just drilled a couple of holes instead? I wonder if it had a dual use or something. I see that they drilled a large hole, and they stamped 3 holes into a round of metal, then welded it over the hole. I'd love to hear the stories behind some of these details. Like why do broncos have a center hood support by the cowl, but not the trucks? it's the same hood!

Here you go to start a interesting thread. I think the hood hinge overlay bars have to do with crash survival? Survey says?

And this is FYI for those that have not seen the Bronco center hood "alignment" piece. See the U shaped piece by the cowl....I seem to remember the hood having the piece that went in the U when you shut the hood. I think this Bronco had the hood hinge overlays also.

My 78 F 150 came with the inner piece and the 78 Bronco had it all, both had the hood designed to fold.

I took this one off of a Bronco. There were dimples in the fire wall and hood where the screws are located.
