Tell your dealer....They likely will tell you its normal........That seems to be the go to answer.............Like their goofy 10 speed transmissions. Skipping gears clunking, its all normal.
Looks like every other vehicle I've been under in the last 50 years. It is normal and it's not a problem. It bothers some and many have painted and coated with various things. I have no experience with spray on bed liner but I wonder how much unsprung weight are you adding and probably more important what would the rubber (plastic?) coating due to the natural air flow cooling of the rear axle. I've seen the axles get pretty warm to touch after a day on the road, is the coating going to hold enough heat to be a long term issue? Anybody? This should go without saying but will the guy spraying it know enough to tape off the vent? Would be interesting to see how this plays out if you go for it. Jim
PS I had mine sprayed with Krown under coating and that hid the rusty looking spots but don't know how long it will last, I probably won't recoat due to mostly aluminum.
Gonna see how much it cost and IF I can afford it- (got that locker to pay for first) But yeah I'm thinking just some paint and washing with soap and water during the winter- I mean I'm just about 70 how long can me or the truck last after all hahaha
Those rear axles sit outside in a parking lot for about a year before being installed in a truck
The rust sure is normal
All makes have the same surface rust on their axles
