93 e250 fuel pump wiring

hey there

I am trying to wire a new connector for a Delphi fuel pump into the stock harness on my 93 e250

can someone help me with the purpose of the wires on the van side?

there is a large pink with black stripe, large black and a smaller gray with red stripe and yellow with white stripe.

I am not sure about the wires on the pump either, I was guessing that red and black are pump power and ground and the purple and black/white stripe are for the sending unit.

any help is appreciated

Mitch

I took the pump out of the old tank:

pink and black - pump +/-
yellow - sender sig
gray - sender ground

the pump wires on the delphi pump are red and black.

with the old pump connected it primes at key-run

with the delphi pump connected it clicks twice but does not whirr or make a running noise

is it possible that the delphi pump has an internal shutoff when no fuel is present?

I would think it would be loud enough to hear if it was actually priming

any ideas?

No, the pump should run even if dry
Usually you leave the truck alone and deal with the wiring on the new pump side
That way, if you put a factory pump back in it someday, it just plugs in
In your case, you just have it wired wrong
Take the old pulp and the new pump on the ground together and wire them up the exact same way
It happens all the time with the aftermarket pumps (needs to be rewired)
Take the new pump back out of the tank and verify which wires are going where

Thanks for the info, yeah I should have wired in the new plug after the original.

I wired it different ways, It supposed to be ready to go out of the box. I just reinstalled the original and I'll have to try and get some money back for the new pump.
