Fifth Wheel 3rd Brake Light
I have a 2022 F250 SD Crew Long-bed HD (It has the extra overload springs, larger trany cooler, ETC) anyway the Ford Dealer cannot test or figure it out.
On the Fifthwheel, Goose-neck, Bumper-pull, I run a 3rd Brake Light controlled by the Brake Controller.
On my '03 6.0 F250 and '17 F250 no problem, the 3rd Brake Light comes on when you step on the brakes, I have to put an LED 3-6.7 volt bulb to make it work. On the '22 it works when you step on the brakes, but when not stepping on the brakes the bulb flashes every 4-5 sec. My voltmeter cannot pick it up, I had to run the light off each trailer Brake Light using a couple diodes so it doesn't feed back.
So the question is what is going on, Ford Replace the Brake Controller, and nothing changed. I spoke to a Trailer guy, that has built and worked on trailers for 60 years, and he was stumped.
Thanks
Roger
I tapped into my 5th wheel's brake lights and used a Curt brake circuit device to activate a 3rd light (2 inputs - 1 from each light; 1 output for the 3rd light). It was a pain to have to wire it that way and figure out how to neatly mount the 3rd light in the center of the back wall without exposing wires. But it works fine.
I considered using the brake signal from the truck to the brake pump (disc brakes) but figured between how Ford keeps pulsing that circuit and it being a variable voltage based on brake pressure I decided not to go that route.
