C6 fluid capacity

I did a filter and pan gasket change on my 1973 F100, my factory Ford shop manual says total capacity for the C6 is 12 1/2 quarts, which I assume is if the converter is drained. What would I need for just the filter change? I'm thinking 6 quarts but not sure of the top of my head

Well, I would say fill it with the engine not running until it shows full on the dipstick. Then start it, shift through all of the positions on the PRNDL, and recheck the fluid level. You'll probably need another quart or two. Fill until the dipstick indicates full with the engine running and the trans warmed up.

This is from my 1976 owners manual.
Like mentioned above, I'd add until it shows on the dipstick, start it and check it when its hot.
Run she selector thru the gears and recheck it.
