I do not have an issue discussing Chevy items, as long as there is a remote connection with a Ford pro somewhere.

When I bought my 55 F-100, the PO had installed some kind of chrome front bumper that I could not identify.

The kind folks on this forum figured out that it came from a 61 Impala. I am trying to keep my build as much Ford as possible, but I will also try to keep that 61 Impala bumper as a remembrance of the PO.

Just think how many Ford builds over the years were powered by Chevy.

I think the OP should do an LS swap. Nothing like a late model V8 in an old car.

First polished up the points - not bad. Then siphoned out a bunch of old gas. Next spark plugs.... you know how lug nuts creak and groan when you torque them down? Every plug and every pull of the 1/2" ratchet (using a cheater pipe on the handle) sounded like lug nuts. Finally got them out after removing the headers that created interference, and removed one export brace to make room.
Sent him off to get parts and we'll dive into it again tomorrow. Plugs, wires, vacuum hose for the dizzy, air filter, etc.

DieselDog, have fun with your car. You're learning a lot more this way than if you went strictly by the book. Just keep in mind some guys here build show-room quality, 100 point cars and to them that is the norm. I build safe daily drivers and work trucks that will get scratched, dented and used. I love running old iron.
To each his own!

I been helping my dad on his 49, poor guy is 84 and not able to get on and off the creeper. I figure to help out the youngers or my older friends

I know that feeling, I help my 91 year old neighbor work on his 29 model A when he needs help with it.

no thanks I have had bad luck with Ls motors in the past and I am clueless when it comes to wiring anything, but if you want to sell me that Impala bumper I would love to have it as mine is toasted from rust.

Huh sounds familiar, cough, my dads 67 stang, cough cough.

I build safe daily drivers and work trucks that will get scratched, dented and used. Exactly how I do it, my trucks and cars are never babied. I use them like they were back in the day.
Shiny paint is a big nope for me as it means I cant use it like a real vehicle because the paint might get scratched.

Once I rebody my 61 GMC I am going to paint it with tractor paint so it is durable.

I have gotten a few PMs about this topic and I think I have a solution for all of this.
I will not post about the motor swap and instead just focus on the non Chevy specific stuff like suspension, interior, exhaust, rust repair, and electrical repair.
This way there is still a build thread but the hardcore Ford guys don't have to see much Chevy specific stuff.

I for one would be interested in your build . My guess is the objections are coming from the same group that chased off a new member who started a trucks and girls thread for being inappropriate meanwhile the vintage pic thread has thousands of girls and vehicles that somehow seem to be acceptable .

Hey Paul!

About the Chevy forums, (but not specifically any one in particular), I have noticed on some forums it seems to take forever to get an account to actually start threads and participate. Their admins are part time folks I suppose and aren't really engaged day to day. One Ford truck forum I belong to it took several weeks. So keep trying!
And once you get an account, don't forget to come back here every now and then or even daily!

Yeah my thoughts were the same but i have been waiting since spring of 22' and they still havent done anything.
I have tried the 6066 GMC Club, 67-72 Chevy trucks forum, stovebolt forum, Chevy enthusiasts, and I am sure I forgot some. and still not even one has approved my account.

Not sure why you're having issues on the Chevy boards. Probably some kind of glitch. Maybe try reaching out to a moderator or something like that.

As far as a build thread for a 61 Chevy? Yes, it's probably interesting and would be fun to follow along on, but, I don't think it's appropriate for a Ford truck board.
Yes, we do have lots of discussions about non Ford things; power plants, wiring, steering columns, gauges, etc, etc, etc. but we don't have dedicated threads for Chevy (or other off brand).

Many of us have non Ford components. I for one have parts from Cadillac Mercury, Pontiac, Toyota, Packard, Oldsmobile, GMC, etc on my 49. But again, the basic truck is Ford. I will discuss my non Ford stuff and will post pics of my other stuff; Dodge, Studebaker, Kaiser, etc. I just wouldn't start a build thread specifically for them.
There's tons of great guys here with a huge knowledge base. Most of us are willing to share and help out where (and if) we can. But this just isn't the proper place for a build thread dedicated to a Chevy.

All that being said. Don't let us discourage your builds and your having fun with old stuff (yep, I too have always been one of those that have had left over clapped out junk...LOL)

Bobby

Here's a picture of my brothers 68 Camaro. He bought it in 1969. The original owner pulled out the 396 and dropped in a 427. My brother's Camaro was the fastest street car around and well known in Lancaster and Lebanon County by local hotrodders and the police.

He still has it. This is a recent picture after his son had the car buffed and had a paint correction done to it.

I hope you warned him about cheap mainland Chinese parts (no go), especially the points and condenser.

...for sure! Turns out plugs, wires, distributor cap and fresh gas plus a snort of Sea Foam did the trick. The 302 rumbles just right thru long tube headers and glass packs.!

Wouldn't fly in most state, muffler or not, a lot of state's law enforcement are now carrying db meters.

In SoDak where I am, the law will leave you alone if you have a loud vehicle "if" your not being an idiot and purposely showing how loud it is, Most people that get pulled over here for loud vehicles were being idiots and revving the engine or gunning it in tunnels or alley ways. I've know a couple guys in the cruising scene here that got pulled over for excessive noise / disturbing the peace, and no, pointing out they had a muffler was a don't care, the lawman pulled out a db meter and if it was above the level hello ticket heaven.
