am having some really bad problems. have a 98 psd in a e-450 superduty with the service engine soon light on so i read the codes and get baro/map ckt low. so i pull up the drivabilaty screen and my baro volts are bouncing from 0.00 to 0.01. now the light is not always on and when it is not on it reads 4.7 volts which i belive is correct. now where the hell is the baro?
is the baro the same as the map or what? went out and bought a book from crappy tire on the 98 e-series and it says that in a diesl the baro is located behind the instrument panel so i took it off and it's not there? am really getting frustrated have had this same code for about 2 years on and off but latly seems to be getting worse (staying on almost all the time) just did about 13k off work to her and don't want to blow my brand new 3k trany because when the ses light is on it goes into limp and shiffts really hard. any suggestions PLEASE
Ok, bad news, the baro sensor is a part of the pcm (powertrain control module). What is your elevation? Here in southern In/Ky we run about 14.7psi baro pressure. Can you get me the pressure reading rather than the volt reading and I will ask one of my techs.....
baro is not mesured in psi it's mesured in kpa. the difference in kpa (alltitude) below or above sea level is relayed in volt's 2.6v will be about 10,000 above sea level, and even with sea level will be about 4.7v. are you sure that the pcm's are rare? am pretty sure that i've elimanated everthing but the pcm.
have tested the sensor (which was under the dash driver side near the doghouse for any body else that is looking for it). first tested the sensor than tested sig rtn and reg for volts i got 4.7 which was perfect. than tested the sig rtn and the baro and got no volts which was bad than tested the baro wire between the sensor and the 76 pin wire conector for contintnewaty(that is not spelt right but i tried) and it was fine. so it must be the $450.00 pcm that i priced from fords today right?
And for you yankees thats north of the border prices ehh.
any other ideas would be very appreceated.
See, that's the differencein Can and USA, kpa vs psi.....
Anyway, it sounds like you are testing the map sensor and those readings would be appropriate, I will get with 1 of my techs Friday if you can get me the kpa reading and your local altitude...
(I'll do the conversion...lol)
defenetly not the map the map has a hose that goes to the turbo housing that mesures boost. the baro that's under the dash mesures kpa and along with the IAT and MAP determines the fuel air ratio. the kpa is about 101.3kpa no need to convert i don't think, two completly different readings. psi which comes from MAP and kpa which comes from the baro.
Southern ont is were i am, Chatham, ont. is were i call home. about 45 min north east of windsor.
thanks for the time and help.
as for the alltitude beats the hell out of me. pretty much even with lake st.clair and lake erie.
