Andriod Auto

Plugged my phone in th other day to charge it and Android Auto pretty much took over everything. Annoying.

I guess I need to spend some time learning it and getting comfortable or just delete the app.

Any tips/tricks?

I like Android Auto with my Samsung S21 Ultra . It allows me to use my regular Google maps straight from the phone that displays on my center screen (2019 F350 CCLB 6.7) .I also can play any music from my Spotify . I look at it as a positive not negative experience .

I agree 100%. I prefer android auto to carplay and the stock nav interface.

OP, as for it taking over, I believe you can turn off auto connect to AA, and even when it's on, you can easily move away from it with the tabs on the navigation screen.

My F350 Platinum has massage seats. I have same exact issue as you describe below. To get back to factory screen, I just hit the massage button and that changes it back.

Don't plug the phone into the dash center usb ports, they are connected to the media center. If you have a crew cab, plug it into the charge port on the back of the console, or get a charger to plug into the 12v outlet or power inverter.
I'm guessing your xlt has the small 8" screen, with SYNC3, on mine with the 12" screen and SYNC4, it has the wireless android auto connection, so if I don't want my phone to connect, I have to go into the app and turn it off.
But, I use the google maps instead of factory nav in mine, but I plug my phone in, android auto connection seems to work better wired.
Android auto is very intrusive though, even when sitting parked, trying to watch a video or movie on my phone, there is a delay in the sound, so it doesn't sync right with the video, really sucks. I think it is on purpose to dissuade you from watching video going down the road, so I just carry my old phone with me with android auto disabled and use it for entertainment while I'm stopped.

To clarify, if you don't want Android Auto to automatically connect, that setting is on your phone. Not the truck.

if you go into the settings and turn off Android or Apple CarPlay, the radio will only be used for playing music and charging.
