Engine cuts out/tach drops
My son has a 1990 F150 with a 5.0.
Does anyone have any experience with an engine cut out at idle and or light throttle?
No engine light, fresh tune up and fresh igntion module.
The capacitors in the processor need to be checked
You should check the EEC 4 codes in case that can send you in a correct direction
Codes like 15 and 18 are processor related
You could try running it around with the spout plug out
Could be a lean issue, a bad injector, just about anything
The process of elimination is your friend
You can do an old fashioned cylinder balance test
Pull each plug wire off at idle one at a time and verify the RPM drop
Things like that help
You said tune up. Did you replace the wires and the cap and rotor?
Yes=ignition switch on top the steering column is failing.
No=Profile ignition pickup sensor inside the distributor is failing... Or
Ignition control module is failing.
Does it happen when the engine i warm or at all times?
It's definitely not a single cylinder misfire.
The ignition module was just replaced for other symptoms. I was thinking about ignition primary, the truck has been sitting for a few years.
