I had planned to use 1 1/2" foam, but I ended up using 3/4" since the cover was fairly robust. I will say that my seat bounce test sitting on the shop floor confirmed that you could not feel springs on the seat bottom or the back upright. I'm a long way from installing it in the truck, so I hope the wheel to belly specs are kind....
