Good point Ross, prompted me to go out to the garage and look at my cut-away seat (torn cover). Steel springs, burlap, some sort of padding (that mice love) about 1/2" thick, and genuine naugahyde....vinyl.

I don't have a sales Brochure for any of the 48-50 models, but in a book I have ("Classic Ford F-Series Pickups Trucks 1948-1956" by Don Bunn) about Ford Pick-ups, there was an optional Foam Rubber seat available starting in 1948 for an additional $15.
The 51 Extra Cab advertised a Deluxe Seat with a layer of foam rubber padding.
