I purchased new upholstery for my 54 stock seat from Mid Fifty. I am very pleased with it. Well made and fit well. The paperwork with it was from California company called SEATZ. They have a website. Check them out.
I had gotten the upholstery for my '49 from Seatz like Bob mentions. Was very happy with it, I had ordered the tweed/vinyl combination. And LMC truck has upholstery too. Contact them to see if their supplier is Seatz, I think it was. LMC has a 'seat rebuild kit' and it contains some hog rings and pliers. I found them to be too small (the rings) so I went to my local hardware store and bought a set of pliers and rings that were much more rugged.
John, thanks for mentioning Raybuck. Now I remember that it was Raybuck who made the seat cover for my '49, and it was SEATZ who made the cover to my '51 before that.
I found that Raybuck still sells the same exact tweed/vinyl style today. If they make a 53-56 style, I bet it would be good.
I was happy with both of them.

I just picked the colour and fabric and let them do their thing. They are actually sewn in California, don't recall the place, Raybuck sells them for double the price but it's set up where you can't purchase directly from the place that makes them...

I also used Raybuck's, the covers were top quality and the process of ordering was straight forward.....it does take 4-5 weeks, but they email you to let you know your cover is next up to be made, then when it's done and shipped.

Gogoat, just remember to not overstuff the seat base or back with padding to try and make it more comfortable. This in turn will cause the seat to lean forward further and give less room between your legs and belly in relation to the steering wheel.
