Need Macromedia help

I need Marcromedia 7 to view certain websites, but everytime I go to the Macromedia site to download it, my computer locks up. Anyone know a solution? My computer is a Gateway and it's running WinME. I'm clueless (as usual).

I may be able to help. . . but I'll have to ask a few silly questions first.

#1 - Do you have any type of virus protection running?

#2 - Do you use dialup or broadband to acces the Internet?

#3 - Are you going directly to the Macromedia web site or going there via a link from another web site?

#4 - Have you completely turned off and restarted your computer, and tried it again?

. . that'll do for now.

Standing by.

1. Norton Antivirus Auto-protect is running

2. Broadband

3. Going directly to the site.

4. Yes.

Definitely want to right click on the Norton icon on the lower right of the task bar and "disable" it during your attempt to install.

That is another important part to note; it is downloading AND installing. It is completely possible that your system could be unresponsive for as much as three to five minutes (even with broadband). Honest.

. . although I obviously have no idea how long you have given it to complete before "realizing" it was frozen.

If you want to give it another try, Lord knows I'll be crusing the board for a while, I'll keep my eye out for you to report back.

. . and hopefully some other GEEK WILL SPEAK UP HERE TOO WITH SOME SUGGESTIONS in the meantime.

Respectfully, the ever suttle . .

It takes about 10 seconds to lock up the computer. I got Flash 5 uninstalled, but I still can't get the new one. I'm tired and sick of this computer. I'll mess with it tomorrow.

If I had the extra money I'd just buy a new DELL and get rid of all these problems. Anyone need a WinME Gateway for target practice?

I fully suspect the "WinME" part has some culpability here.

Have I mentioned my belief that Bill gates is the Anti-Christ?

I hate all computers, and the feeling is mutual. They will eventually kill me, I know this, and accept it with much the same aplomb that the bug feels when you stand on it..

Windows ME is probably the worst thing anyone ever did to the population. I luckily do not have it, so only get screwed by windows 98, or xp..

If you computer is freezing, it is trying to do something it can't - this will either be a conflict with a software application, or a conflict with processor access. Close down everything, exit ALL programs except the ones needed to run windows, and try again. Do not just disable the programs, use the ctl alt del task manager to identify, and exit all programs, and try again.

That may work, and this may have blown my don't know diddly act..

WIN ME wasn't designed by Bill Gates - it was by FREDDY KRUGER!

I firmly believe it's the worst nightmare known to man, and I will not use it on anything of mine.

From what I've heard it's a hybrid of WIN 98, and the NT file structure. I do know it doesn't get along with more programs than it does!
