Get a reman from one of the parts stores, pre 1074, and eat the core charge.
What is wrong with the dist. from the 223?

Only place I see even listing a 300 points distro is OReilly and they seem to never be in stock. I'll check more often though. But the problem with the 223 distro is that the vacuum advance on them is different from manifold vacuum. It's got a special name but I don't recall what it is. But it's a specific system built into the factory Autolite carbs and I'm running a Holley single barrel currently and planning to switch to a 2 barrel, so the vacuum advance doesn't work properly. Apparently just switching to a modified 300 distro will be a sizeable performance boost as the distro really holds the timing back.

If you find anyone that stocks a 53+ year old points dist. you would be lucky.
I would think any parts store would have to order it.
I know of the system you are taking about and also cant think of the name, kind of a back azz wards way to do it
I had a Toyota L/C that had a system kind of like that and the fix was to drop in a Chevy 250 dist. it worked great.

I wounder if it would be better to get a HEI dist. for a 300 Ford, Ebay has some and we tell the 84>86 guys to get them when removing the feed back junk.
It has the coil built in so no need to figure where to mount one.
Only thing is the size will it clear everything on a 223 motor? There is no problem on the 300 motors.

Oh yeah I wouldn't doubt they'd have to get it from a warehouse. And the coil mount is no problem. The 223 has a pair of bolt holes above the side cover opposite the manifolds specifically for the coil, and I'm not sure the HEI would fit either. Honestly I'm kinda hoping to make the truck look suped up stock, sort of correct for the 70s or so. Under dash 8 track player, aftermarket intake and headers, maybe a sliding back window. If I happened to find one for a reasonable price I'd like to get a dual single barrel intake instead of a Clifford 4 barrel as it feels more period and looks cooler, plus the displacement of a 223 just can't handle the high CFM of a modern 4 barrel so it feels a waste to throw that big 4 barrel intake on it. Maybe could trade someone at Carlisle for the 300 Offy intake I've got laying around. But yeah either how I think the HEI would probably fit as I think that's what they recommend for the modified distro builds. I just have an unnecessary proclivity for doing things old school, as evidenced by me dumping over $3000 in a 223 that's probably not gonna break 150hp.

It all good it is your truck and you should build it the way YOU WANT IT.
I was just thinking you or others just wanted to get it running and on the road and why I posted what I did.
Good luck on the hunt for parts and keep us posted

Oh yeah no worries. I didn't take it any sort of way. Assuming people are just trying to get their trucks back on the road is definitely the way to go, cause I imagine that's the case for pretty much anyone, especially in the 80s forums.
