Having an issue with intermittent starting issues when hot, about once every 2-3 months, try cranking several times, Key on/ key off… eventually it starts. Any thoughts on where to start?
First thing that comes to mind is an intermittent IPR solenoid. You can pour ice water on the solenoid next time you have a no start, and see if she fires up.
Watch ICP on FORScan when this happens. It may be staying below 500psi until the IPR responds
I'd look at IPR as well. My troubles with hot (even slightly warm) starts was IPR. It would also stall out, like I cut the key. Would try to start/re-stat and it would crank great. The cranking would be great just sounded like it was getting no fuel at all, would even pull filter to make sure I had fuel getting to tower. I would have to give it about 20-40 min and it would be back to champ mode and go like nothing ever happened.
I have seen the advice to check IPR w/ multimeter, I believe its 10 ohms between the posts indicate good. Also found this "fact checking" myself.
I would also be suspecting the IPR and when it happens again put some ice on it or spray some compressed air on it and see what happens. In the mean time I would remove the electrical connector, check for frayed wires about 6" back, then remove the tin nut & spacer & magnetic piece. Put an ohm meter on the 2 electrical pins...doesn't matter which gets the negative or positive...and you should see a reading of around 10.5-11.0 ohms...
