2012 6.7 Starting Issue
Hello everyone! 2012 F250 170k. I have an starting issue that I could use some help with. If my truck sits for more than a couple of days and I go to start it it will starts right up, runs for 4-5 secs and dies. When I hit the key again it will turn over very quickly for 5-7 secs and not start. Hit the key again and it will start and run ok and restart the rest of the day without any problem. Next day no problem starting. Let it sit for 2 days and get the no start issue again. Fuel filters replaced approx. 1 month before this issue started. No codes, no check engine light. Only does this if I let it sit more than 1 day! Any suggestions as to where to look?
Filters are OEM. It was doing this before I put the new filters in. I was going on a vacation so I put the new OEM filters in. Went on a 10 Day, 2700 mile vacation, starting the truck every day with no problems. Came home truck sat for 2 days and the problem showed up again. This has me puzzled??
I plugged in my ForScan and have no active codes. Once it starts for the day all is good, Next day same thing good. let it sit for 2 of more days and goofy no/hard start problem shows up!
Going to be off this weekend, maybe I can disconnect reconnect the upper fuel filer fuel connections and make sure the lower filer bowl is on tight. But this problem showed up before I changed the filters?? Will report back if I come up with anything obvious. If anybody has any other other suggestions Please Help!

Makes sense! That would help rule out air in the system! Just before reading your post the truck had been sitting for 3 days, I tried to start it and it immediately started and died and on the second try it turned over for 4-5 secs and started and continued to run.
I will post back up after a few days and give the results on the "Prime" results. Kind of sucks you have to wait 2 days for a problem to reoccur, but the alternative is a complete no start!!
Sorry it took so long to get back to everyone. I have been trying the "prime" theory and it seems to be working. If I get in the truck and cycle the key once the truck will start immediately! I think my next step is going to be to disconnect and reconnect the fuel lines at the under hood filter and check to see if the o-rings on the connectors still look good. Does that seem reasonable or is there something else I should be looking at?
Finally a resolution! Sorry it took so long to get a reply but we have had a brutal cold spell even here in the Texas hill country. I disconnected the fuel lines from the upper canister filter inspected the o rings and firmly reconnected them. I removed the bowl and replaced making sure everything was seated correctly and that seems to have corrected the problem. I believe the problem was at the upper filter connection? There was no leak but by removing and firmly reconnecting the fuel lines corrected the problem. Funny how something as simple as replacing the filters caused the problem. Thanks for the help!
