won't start when engine is hot(normal temp)

I am new to Ford Diesel, I do have experience with Mercedes and Vw tdi.
Anyway my truck is a F250 1990 7.3l stock and it is in a very good condition.
at 267000Km is running like new! no smoke no burning oil ,lots of power well i think, run and fell just find. when i turn the key , i have to turn it hard and far to make it turn, but it work every time, I did spray oil to help the key, and it did help, but now it won't come back by it self (i just turn the key back and every thing work well for now) Any way , i got the truck and it is a bit hard to start(it just won't start like any other diesel i have before. I ask the last owner, and he told me it is like that since he got the truck 8 years ago. Now it won't start when it's hot , it sound like if i am out of diesel. If i stop it and start right way , it will start just like it's suppose to, but if 20minute past , it is gone until it get cold or the next day. Thanks

The ignition/key issue would be better explained by others...

The not starting when hot is a failing Injection Pump unfortunately.

It also sounds like there may be some glow plug issues.

Sounds like it is time to start looking for a rebuilt injector pump. When they get tired they will start when cold but are hard to start when hot. The internals in the pump get warn and when hot won't pump the fuel.

Thanks for the quick recommendation, i had not consider the glow plug, because when it start cold, it run very clean from the start. what about the first pump on the block? it look like it is the original. And if it is the injection pump where should i get it? It will have to be ship to Canada (Ontario) and what should i expect to pay. it is easy to replace? and at last how long it take to replace it , is it easy to do! thanks

Thats where the glow plug thoughts came from...

The lift pump, That would not make it hard to start when warm.

coyote1968,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

My original IP lasted almost 300K miles.
But that was many miles back in the days of high sulphur diesel.

With modern fuels, I am going to say 100,000 and you are going to notice a rather large difference when you change the IP unless you are adding something to increase the lubricity of the fuel on a very regular basis.

One place that is common for corrosion that requires changing the positive battery is the passenger side terminal.
Over the years the sulfide gasses cause corrosion inside the wire in the clamp.
No way to see it or clean it.
Inspect the clamp and wires on both sides of the clamp.

Brittle and discolored insulation is a sign the clamp was hot, which is a sign you have internal corrosion.

Eventually it will get bad enough the engine will not start, even with brand new batteries and a new starter.

Exclamation rebuilt injection pump any good?

true my many call, I just find out there is a part on the pump very very $ One of the shop working on those pump told me a real rebuilt will cost over 1000$ ,if he do not replace the head or the part where the injector connect the rebuilt will cost around 400$ but the pump will last a year maybe two.He also told me it was a problem on those pump the "1990-1992". Any one have experience or when to a rebuilt pump?

I bought a remanufactured IP from Ford here in WV a few years ago for 435 dollars plus exchange.

You might try www.mwfi.com

Good reports from everyone that has used them before.
Not sure what will happen to the price when it goes to Canada though.

Their price for a 90 IP is 453 dollars and change.
