I need some help before I go to a shop, I’ve got a 2000 f350 SD 7.3 with 169,000 on her. She runs great, lately I started having issues acting like she’s starving for fuel. Replaced the fuel pump, filter, etc. no fix so I’m running it on my auxiliary tank and no issues (separate system) but when I cut the truck off when it’s hot my lift pump won’t turn on which causes a no start. (Either fuel system) I replaced my CPS, fuel pump relay, removed my chip from the ECU and today she died while I was driving. Still having issues with no start. I need help, I don’t think it’s the HPOP cause I don’t see any leaks. My IPR isn’t full of oil. Anyone know of anything? Using all motor craft parts and filters This is the chip I removed (60 HP, 110 ft. Lb)
Have you checked your fuel pressure? Or just loaded up the old parts canon and started firing away?
Factory- you only have one fuel pump, there is no lift pump and HP pump or like.
Just a good old frame mounted Bosch fuel pump.
I would suspect you have plugged screens in the tank as you said the truck ran fine when you switched to your "aux" fuel system. No idea what that is so hard to help there.
I think you are confusing your IPR with your ICP sensor.
Will the truck run, but dies or will it simply not start now?
Yes it will start back up once I let it sit, when the truck gets hit after a long drive and I shut it off, the Bosch pump nor my auxiliary pump will run which causes a no start. After it sits and I try again everything works as normal.
It will run fine and very rarely shut off. But normally the only issue I’m having is a no start when it’s hot. But that’s because my fuel pump won’t run, I can turn the key and hear nothing, usually you hear the pump so this is how I know that’s what is causing no start. But would that cause it to shut off going down the highway?
It's not the hpop, the pumps don't fail in that way. You would have all kind of performance issues and lack of power for months before a hpop ever just flat couldn't get it done and the engine died because of it. The fuel pump relay is in the dash, a little below and left of the factory head unit. It is powered from the 87 pin of the PCM relay and is switched on or off by the PCM through the 40 pin of the PCM connector. From the fuel pump relay power goes over to the inertia switch in the passenger kick panel. The switches have been known to give a problem or 2 but not sure I've ever heard of intermittent stalling being tied to them. I think we're going to need more detail of what is actually going on here. You are losing power to the fuel pump, does everything else continue to work like normal when that happens? What mods have been done to the truck? The more info we have about the truck and what it's doing or not doing the more helpful we'll likely be.
Yes I’m losing power to the fuel pump, it doesn’t cut off going down the road often but it will not power the fuel pump when I turn the truck off hot, has to sit until something cools or resets and then it will run and crank fine. only mods have been the chip I posted originally which I removed. It does have a spare(aux) tank in the bed with separate fuel pump with a switch on the dash so I can choose which tank to run. I’ve replaced the relay and fuel pump still same issues. Replaced CPS and nothing. It’s only died on me while driving twice and I’ve been having this issues
for about a month. It’s very manageable I just can’t turn off the truck if I plan to drive again soon after. If it sits it’s fine. Very weird and I don’t wanna throw ICP IPR at it without knowing if that’s the issues. It’s acting like an electrical problem
No other issues besides fuel pump, I can hear it run when I turn the key and I know it’ll fire right up, when i shut it down hot after a decent bit of driving is when i turn the key and do not hear the pump, which causes a no start. I let it sit and boom everything works fine.
There is a switch to flip between tanks and I do believe the switch is wired to the original fuel pump wires. Let me follow the wires really quick, I’m not exactly sure how it’s wired. This was my grandfathers truck and he has since passed away so I’m on my own with this thing lol
Im with last comment. Have you actually verified power and ground at the pump when it's not running/working? Or do you just think it's not getting power because you "can't hear it"?
For the time being I would try to take the aux tank out of the equation and try to piece fuel lines back together like factory to make sure it's not sucking air somehow into the lines from the aux tank setup. Post some pics also of how it's plumbed in if possible.
