Daytime lites are great, but there are time when you need them off. In my 1996 Ford you could put on the emergency brake and they would go off. But not so in my 2002 150. Any ideas???
Should be an article in the tech section about the system. Unfortunately it removes the daytime running light capability all together. Essentially you remove the relay behind the driver side light and you don't have them anymore.
You might think about a secondary switch that involves routing the light output through it. THis way you can switch the lights on and off.
I've found that on my truck, applying the emergency brake does not turn off the DRL's if they are already on, however applying it before they come on does prevent them from coming on. Maybe yours is similar.
Neat, I just had to run out and try it.....I put on the emergency brake turn on the key to "run" lites came on.....damn, thanks for the suggestion though
I'm not familiar with the Canadian transportation laws that govern the day time running lights. Is it a law to have them? I know they come standard on all new Canadian vehicles and have for a number of years. Around here, in western Washington, we used to have signs on the road that let us know we need to put the lights on. Haven't seen them in a while.
I am pretty sure that it is a Canadian law. And I agree with it. In my line of work Road maint. I am amazed at how many people do not have their lights on during a snow storm. Usually they are driving a white or grey auto.
In my work there are times when I need to park on side of the road (winter) and I need to observe without being observed.
Starting in 1990 (I think) all cars and light trucks had to have DRLs. Even if they weren't mandatory I think they are a good idea.
With a little bit of work you could add a switch to shut off the DRLs. You would have to put the switch in the Og/LG wire from the underhood fuse box to the DRL resistor which is behind the front bumper on the driver side.
